TERRORISM WORKSHOPS
The Terrorism Workshops, co-sponsored with the
Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars and Georgetown University's Center for Peace and Security Studies, is designed to stimulate informed discussion and debate on the problem of terrorism and the most effective means to address it. The meetings provide a neutral venue at which experts from the military, government, business, journalism and academia can meet on a regular basis to hear presentations by preeminent international experts on topical issues and to exchange views and information. The forum explores the nature and sources of terrorists' beliefs, actions, and worldviews, and assesses approaches and strategies to prevent or mitigate the threat of terrorism. Although the focus is on American national security, foreign policy and homeland defense issues as they relate to terrorism and counterterrorism, the series also considers relevant experiences and challenges facing other states in these same areas. Meeting topics have ranged from suicide bombing to the evolution of al Qaeda since 9/11, and from the radicalization of European Muslims to state sponsors of terrorism.
